
Professor Andres Perez is an internationally recognized expert in animal health, risk analysis, and epidemiology.
As a senior scientific advisor at EpiX Analytics, Andres’ focuses on improving animal and human health through a combination of capacity building, fundamental and applied research, and policy support and scientific advocacy.
Andres has served as Principal Investigator (PI) for numerous grants over the last 20 years, including several US federal agencies, the World Organization for Animal Health, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. During his career, he has secured over $23 million in external research funding as PI or co-PI. Dr. Perez has published more than 230 scientific publications and has collaborated on capacity building activities related to food animal health epidemiology in more than 30 countries.
Andres is professor and endowed chair of Global Animal Health and Food Safety at the University of Minnesota, and honorary professor at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain. In addition, Andres serves on many international scientific and policy boards and committees, including as a direct of the UMN CAHFS, which is an OIE collaborating center for capacity building of veterinary services and an FAO reference center for veterinary public health, and previously served as a director of an FAO reference center in veterinary epidemiology (CADMS, UC Davis). Andres Perez holds a DVM from the Universidad Nacional de Rosario and a PhD from the Universidad de Buenos Aires in Argentina.
