Given the unprecedented global spread of ASF and the limitations of current control measures, we believe there is a need to challenge existing paradigms and consider new mitigation approaches. We argue that these new solutions need to provide financial motivation for producers to invest in biosecurity, and early detection and reporting of suspected cases.
We propose a Partitioning framework, which relies on 1) both external and internal biosecurity, 2) on-farm surveillance for early detection, 3. response plans that include targeted depopulation and demonstration of freedom from disease on remaining units.
We have presented our work and recommendations at several conferences and in peer-reviewed articles.
