PRRSv and international trade

After a change in pig meat import regulations, New Zealand’s Ministry of for Primary Industries (MPI) invited us to participate in an expert working group (EWG) from multiple countries and institutions assembled to evaluate the risk of introduction of PRRSv, a swine disease, into New Zealand via imported fresh/frozen pig meat. EpiX’s expertise in critically reviewing existing import risk assessments, analyzing available data, and in developing a quantitative model was key to informing the New Zealand import policy.  Soon after we completed our work, the MPI issued new requirements related to raw pig meat imports. These regulations were also successfully defended from a court challenges, for which EpiX provided expert testimony
